Anti Aging Skin Treatment Best Non Surgical Procedures
An anti aging skin treatment can drasticly improve your skins appearance and reduce the signs of aging. Skin care treatments do not require surgical procedures. You may even get the results you want during your lunch break!
There are many different cosmetic procedures that vary from invasive treatments like peels to non invasive technologies like Intensive Pulse Light. This page will give you information on the best anti aging skin care treatments that are safe and effective. Treatments are available from skin clinics, beauty therapists, dermatologists and sometimes even plastic surgeons.
How To Find A Good Skin Treatment Clinic
An anti aging skin treatment must be performed by a professional. In general I recommend a clinic who specialises in anti aging skin treatments.
A skin treatment clinic usually has the best machines and equipment that get maintained on an ongoing basis for safety.
Excessive training, knowledge and experience of the therapist is necessary to be sure the treatment is safe. Feel free to ask about the therapists experience, after all you pay a lot of money!
Do a little research and talk to people who had an anti aging skin treatment at that clinic before you book your appointment. Reputation usually speaks!
Book for a free consultation at first. The therapist will examine your skin and will talk to you about which anti aging skin treatment would be best for you.
While you there, keep an eye on details, like how clean it is and how busy the clinic seems. Does the phone ring off the hook or are you the only client today?
And at last, you want to make an informed decision. If the therapist just tries to sell you the most expensive anti aging skin treatment without giving you all the options, go somewhere else!
Best Non Surgical Anti Aging Skin Treatments
Botox
Botox revolutionised the cosmetic industry and it's approach to wrinkles. Botox is a preparation of botulinum toxin A that is injected right into the contracted muscle to produce a paralyzing effect. This paralyzing effect prevents you from frowning. In return the skin over the muscle is smooth and wrinkles dissapear.
Many people are concerned about Botox and it's safety, however botox is not doing anything to the muscle itself instead it's preventing the nerve ends to tell the muscle to move.
Botox injections last for about 3 month until the effect wears off. Prices range from US$500 to $1500.
Side effects
A small bruise, a very slim chance of a droopy eyelid if injected in the brow area, headaches. People with neuromuscular disorders, pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing should not have botox injections.
My advice
I recommend Botox for specific frownlines that really bother you. Too many paralized muscles will give you less facial experession. Botox is safe, but you should not over-do it. Choose an experienced practicioner.
Non-Surgical Face Lift
The non surgical facelift works with a painless micro current that gently stimulates perfect exercises to the muscle fibres. This treatment lifts sagging skin and regain firmness while smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The professional non surgical face lift with micro current is not to compare with the do-it-yourself facial exerciser you can buy for $19.95. The home version does nothing!
No side effects
A course of 10-15 treatments (2-3 per week) is recommended to achieve maximum results. After that 1 treatment per month for maintenance.
Cost is about US$100 per treatment.
My advice
If you looking for an effective treatment that is safe, this anti aging skin treatment is perfect. Its non invasive, affordable and there are no side effects.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is an anti aging skin treatment to refreshen the skin and repair sun-damage, scaring and pigmentation like age spots.
Tiny crystals are sprayed onto the face which act like a gentle sandblaster while the dry skin cells are being removed. Circulation is improved and cell renewal promoted. New healthy skin will re-grow. Skin texture and appearance are improved as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
Side effects
In some cases redness for 12-48 Hours.
A treatment course of 1 session per week for 6 weeks is recommended.
During that time no sun exposure or sun beds.
Cost about US$100 per treatment.
My advice
I think Microdermabrasion is a fantastic anti aging skin treatment for scarring or sundamage. I prefer it to chemical peels as it's a safer alternative.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers are injections with a filling product to plump up wrinkles or lips. There are different kind of Dermal Fillers available on the market. The most common ones are Collagen (derived from cows skin) or the natural option with Hyaluronic acid like Restylane. In some countries only certain fillers are registered for safety. Some fillers last only temporary others are long lasting Dermal Filler containing Poly-L-lactic acid, a naturally occurring substance that stimulates the body to produce its own dermal filler.
A skin test for allergy reasons should be done prior (about 3% react to the collagen fillers)
Side effects
Maybe bruising, light bleeding and some swelling.
The anti aging treatment takes about 30 minutes and cost about US$500.
My advice
If you dont mind the side effects, this anti aging skin treatment is great. I personally dont like injecting foreign substances into my body, however I do like the natural option of Dermal Fillers containing Poly-L-lactic acid.
IPL (Intensive Pulsed Light)
Intensive Pulsed Light is the alternative to laser. The IPL System can deliver hundreds of thousands of colours of light (while laser only uses one) to reach the specific target area exactly. The pulse produces a high energy flash of light that passes through normal skin, concentrating their energy at different levels.
Photorejuvenation treatment is used to treat the signs of aging (wrinkles, brown spots, facial veins and lines) and sun damage. Photoderm is the only laser used for photorejuvenation which combines the treatment of facial veins, brown spots and stimulation of collagen by up to 20%. It's downside is that it can cause discolouration which may not fade easily.
Side effects
Slight redness, possible discolouration
Photorejuventation is a non-invasive treatment. It takes only about 45 min and can be done in your lunchtime. There may be slight redness, but make-up can be applied straight away. The treatment itself can feel a bit painful or hot on the skin.
IPL can also be used to treat unwanted hair and broken veins.
A experienced IPL therapist is needed to insure no damage to the skin.
The treatment can be quiet costly. 3 to 6 treatments may be needed to achieve maximum results and cost about US$300 each.
My advice
IPL is an effective anti aging skin treatment that can help to reduce unsightly veins or scars as well as smoothen fine lines. Make sure to see an experienced IPL operator as any damage to the skin could be permanent.
Photon Light Therapy
As alternative to the IPL (Intensive Pulsed Light) Treatment, Photon Therapy is a completely natural way to rejuvenate your skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, tone down and control pigmentation spots and improve your skins texture and health. Photon light stimulates the skin's own rejuvenation and healing ability to counteract the effects of aging, unlike IPL treatments that work as a result of the body's response to controlled damage.
No side effects
Photon light units are completely safe and cause no skin damage or irritation.
Red light therapy is the most popular treatment due to its anti aging effects. Blue photon light is used successfully for the treatment of acne, while green photon light can be used for the treatment of pigmentation.
Photon Light Units, also referred as LED light therapy units are available for home use and cost around US$200.
My advice
I like that photon light therapy is a totally natural anti aging treatment that causes no damage to the skin. Compared to the cost of other skin treatments, the home-care versions of photon lights are a very affordable way to get an anti aging skin treatment. I recommend anti aging red light therapy together with good skin care and supplements as an ongoing measure against the aging of the skin.
Laser resurfacing
Laser resurfacing is the skin rejuvenation treatment that goes beyond chemical peels. Not to be confused with the lighter laser treatments you can get done in your lunchtime. (see more below) The laser is removing the upper layer of the skin, stimulating collagen production. Lines, scars and pigmentation to some degree can be removed with this anti aging skin treatment. The newer types of lasers are the preferred option as recovery time is reduced.
Side effects
The procedure itself feels rather uncomfortable whilst a numbing cream helps against pain. Afterwards the skin looks and feels like it has a sunburn. Recovery time for treatments using the latest laser technology is about 1 week and thereafter another 2 weeks to 2 month for the pinkness to disappear. The older laser types can take a recovery time for up to 6 month! During this time extreme care must be taken and instructions followed. Don't forget that the top layer of your skin has been removed and you grow new skin.
Cost for this anti aging skin treatment is about US$4000 to US$7000.
My advice
Use Laser resurfacing only if you really need it. I's an highly invasive treatment with long recovery time. Photorejuventation is a gentler method and might do the same job. A light chemical peel is also preferred if you are wanting a more even skin tone. Laser is a great option for some skins but need careful consideration.
Laser
The light lasers, also called lunch time lasers are the preferred option to improve wrinkles and scars, spider veins and red spots. This type of laser skin care treatment is not to be confused with laser resurfacing, where the laser is taking off the upper layers of the skin. The laser skin treatment stimulates collagen production which over time will help to improve the skins condition. A course of 3 to 5 session is necessary to achieve results.
Side effects
There can be a mild stinging and the skin can be slightly pink afterwards.
My advice
You won't see immediate results with this anti aging skin treatment and the success lays in the hand of the professional laser operator. The treatment takes about 30 minutes and cost around $200 depending on the treatment area.
Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels are applied in different strength and layers to achieve the desired result. The mild glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acid peels can be done easily at a beauty clinic whilst medium peels need to be performed by licensed practitioner.
Chemical peels smooth the skin, remove discolouration and the stronger version even lines, wrinkles and tightens the skin. Like with laser, the upper layer of the skin is removed, collagen stimulated and a new beautiful skin surfaces.
The lighter peel may be a good option for refreshing the skin, maintenance or more sensitive skin types. The skin recovers within hours and only a slight pinkness is left. A few sessions of this anti aging skin treatment are needed to achieve maximum result. Cost is about $120 per treatment.
Medium peels have a recovery time of about 7 days and can cost from $600 to $2000 for treatment on the face.
Side effects
With the mild chemical peel a tingling and mild burning sensation can be felt during the treatment. The skin can be slightly sensitive after but that usually fades quickly.
For the medium peel you would feel mild to medium burning and stinging. Some practitioners treat the skin in sections rather that in whole to minimise the discomfort. After the treatment the skin will be red and flaking until recovered.
My advice
I find the light peels brilliant as a refresher for the skin. There gentler on the skin and on the wallet. A course of this antiaging skin treatment can give you great results without the pain and nasty recovery.
