What Is Causing My Puffy Irritated Eyes?
With all the eye creams that give me amazing results I seem to get puffy irritated eyes. I love using anti aging eye creams. They make my skin smoother and I don’t have to wear as much makeup.
I used Kinerase for a while and I had miracle results. Then I began to notice my eyes getting puffy around the bottom and top eyelids, so I quit using it. Recently i've stating using Lancome Primordiale Cell Defense Serum and Primordiale Optimum. Again I’m getting the same puffy irritated eye effect and i'm not putting it around my eyes. I just wish I could find out what ingredient is causing this, it's frustrating.
I just wanted to know if maybe you can tell me what ingredient or which one of these 2 cremes is causing this effect?
Daniela’s Beauty Advice:
As part of an allergic reaction the eyes can become puffy and irritated. This is most likely in your case as it only happens when you apply certain cosmetic products.
The products you are using a very concentrated anti aging products that achieve maximum results. However, as you guessed, there is probably one ingredient that you react allergic too.
The body reacts allergic when it responds to a foreign invader, the so called antigen. This triggers the immune system to react and release histamine. The release of histamine in the body causes allergic reaction.
In your case, the foreign invader is most likely a chemical ingredient that caused your body to react allergic and triggers the puffy eyes in the quest to remove the foreign substance from the body.
If the puffy eyes are accompanied by redness, itchiness and irritation than the products could have caused contact dermatitis. In other words, you get a rash.
Unfortunately most skin care products are full of chemicals like Parabens that are often the cause for skin problems or allergic reactions like your puffy eyes.
I’ve had a look at the ingredients of the products you have used. Both contain several ingredients that are from a cosmetic point of view likely to cause allergic reactions. These are:
- Imidazolidinyl Urea - A chemical preservative that has been established of causing contact dermatitis
- Propyl - Butyl and Ethyl Paraben - Chemical preservatives that can cause skin rashes and allergic reactions
- Triethanolamine - A toxic chemical used to adjust ph in products, can cause allergic reactions and eye problems
Allergic reactions like puffy eyes can happen out of the blue, even if you have used cosmetic products containing chemical preservatives all your life. One day the body decides it is enough and just can’t cope anymore. My advice is to switch to products that do not contain chemical preservatives like Sense or other natural skin care products. I also advice to take a nutritional supplement every day, that includes vitamins, antioxidants and minerals to help the body remove these harmful toxins out of the body and for rejuvenation.
