What Skin Care Regime for Sensitive Skin?

I am 48 years old and have sensitive skin. I am allergic to mascara, lipstick almost everything.
I am able to use most Neutrogena products(not the make-up) and use the "Oil Free Moisture" for day and the "Visibly Young" cream at night.

I am writing you because I need to start a regime and have needed to for a long time I am just so overwhelmed by everything on the market that I don't know where to start. Cleansers, toners, anti-aging eye-creams,day creams, night creams, serums??? I have been a sun worshipper (not anymore) and the damage is done.

I live in France (for only one more month then back to the USA) so finding products is not a problem...just choosing them is.

Thank-you so much in advance for any advice on which products to try, what brands and so on.
Karyn

Hi Karyn,
you poor thing. I feel for you. Being sensitive to almost every cosmetic product is hard.

I have a few suggestions that may help you. However, with a hyper-sensitive skin like yours, anything could set a sensitive reaction off. I cannot guarantee that my suggestions may not do the same.

I agree that it would be best to use a complete skin care regime. The Neutrogena products you are using at the moment are suitable for young skin that is normal to oily but does little for anti aging.

Your skin care should be free of any possible allergens (parfume, paraben etc.), also called hypoallergenic.

I usually advice to use only products from one skin care range and avoid mix and match products.
Skin care products of the same range are working with each other. Like the cleanser followed by the correct type of toner.

A skin care routine for anti aging should include:
Cleanser, Toner, Eye Cream, Day Moisturizer (inclusive UV protection) and Night Moisturizer for daily use as well as a Serum or other specialized product to treat any skin conditions (e.g. pigmentation) and a exfoliant and mask treatment for 2 to 3 times a week.

For hyper sensitive skin types not all steps are necessary. A sensitive skin often does not allow too much product application at once.

One option would be to wait until you return to the USA and see a dermatologist which would subscribe suitable skin care for you.

You may also be able to get a skin care range for hyper sensitive skin at a pharmacy. Ask for samples to try first.

A possible suitable skin care range is DDF.
DDF has got an extensive range inclusive for sensitive skin:

DDF Sensitive Skin Cleansing Gel
DDF Aloe Toning Complex
DDF Nourishing Eye Cream (??? may not be suitable)
DDF Daily Organic SPF 15
DDF Nutrient K for night time

I also recommend to take an essential fatty acid supplement such as fish oil or flax seed oil. They are very beneficial to treat skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis from the inside and will surely benefit your skin as well.

A toxic body that is very acid can also show a sensitive skin. Try a gentle detox with a high fiber diet if this is the case.

I hope these suggestions will help.
Please contact me if you have any more questions.

All the best

Daniela
